SMP, SMA, dan SMK Katolik Se-Kota Palembang: Integrasi Pendidikan Karakter dalam Pembelajaran


Pada tanggal 16 Juli 2009, Pusat Penelitian dan Pelayanan Pendidikan Universitas Sanata Dharma (P4-USD) mengirimkan dua orang tenaga ahli untuk memberikan pembekalan bagi guru-guru SMP, SMA, dan SMK Katolik se-Kota Palembang. Keduanya adalah Dra. M.Y. Retno Priyani, M.Si. dan Dr. Susento, M.S. dari FKIP USD. Pembekalan bertujuan agar para guru:
  1. memahami gagasan-gagasan integrasi pendidikan karakter dalam proses pembelajaran, dan
  2. termotivasi untuk menerapkan gagasan-gagasan tersebut dengan dukungan kelembagaan sekolah masing-masing.
Kegiatan pembekalan dilaksanakan dalam 2 kelompok.
  • Kelompok pertama terdiri dari 180 guru SMP dari 9 SMP Katolik di Kota Palembang, yakni: SMP Xaverius 1, SMP Xaverius 2, SMP Xaverius 3, SMP Xaverius 5, SMP Xaverius 6, SMP Xaverius 7, SMP Xaverius Maria, SMP Indriasana, dan SMP St. Louis.
  • Kelompok kedua terdiri dari 184 guru SMA dan SMK di Kota Palembang, yang meliputi SMA Xaverius 1, SMA Xaverius 2, SMA Xaverius 3, SMA Xaverius 4, dan SMK Xaverius 1.
Materi pembekalan meliputi:
  1. Pribadi Guru Berkarakter (oleh Dra. M.Y. Retno Priyani, M.Si.), dan
  2. Pembelajaran Bermuatan Karakter (oleh Dr. Susento, M.S.).
Pemilihan materi ini dilandasi oleh salah satu strategi dasar pendidikan karakter di sekolah, yaitu pendidikan karakter dilaksanakan melalui integrasi ke dalam pembelajaran semua mata pelajaran dan juga terwujud dalam suasana dan budaya sekolah. Hal ini dapat dimengerti mengingat pendidikan karakter adalah usaha memanfaatkan semua aspek kehidupan sekolah untuk mengembangkan karakter siswa secara optimal (Musfiroh, 2008).
Pribadi guru berkarakter dicirikan oleh:
  • keandalan pribadi,
  • kemampuan menjalin komunikasi transformatif dengan siswa, dan
  • dukungan kepada perwujudan visi-misi sekolah.
Pembelajaran bermuatan karakter merupakan perwujudan dari peran ganda seorang guru sebagai pengajar dan pendidik sekaligus. Dalam pembelajaran bermuatan karakter, guru memadukan pengembangan kompetensi dan pengembangan karakter siswa melalui semua unsur pembelajaran, yakni metode, kegiatan, materi, penilaian, dan figur guru. Dalam kegiatan pembekalan di atas, guru dilatih untuk menyusun rancangan kegiatan mewujudkan karakter-karakter dasar melalui tiap-tiap unsur tersebut.
Meskipun kegiatan pembekalan berfokus pada guru, namun pendidikan karakter membutuhkan dukungan kelembagaan sekolah. Dukungan kelembagaan meliputi:
  • penentuan karakter-karakter dasar berdasarkan visi-misi sekolah,
  • usaha menemukan peluang-peluang pendidikan karakter dalam kehidupan sekolah, dan
  • perencanaan langkah-langkah untuk memanfaatkan peluang tersebut seraya meminimalkan praktek negatif yang dapat melemahkan pendidikan karakter (bdk. Lickona, 1999). (St)

Program PPG Pra Jabatan Universitas Sanata Dharma

FKIP Universitas Sanata Dharma (USD) sedang mempersiapkan penyelenggaraan program Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) Pra Jabatan. Program ini ditujukan bagi lulusan S1 FKIP USD, yang meliputi program-progran studi:

Proposal pengajuan telah diserahkan ke Dirjen Dikti. Diharapkan program PPG ini telah dimulai bulan September 2009.

  • Pelatihan Peningkatan Mutu Pembelajaran dan Penilaian Guru-guru Yayasan Yohannes Gabriel Surabaya. Diikuti oleh: guru-guru kelas TK (10 orang), kelas SD (11 orang), BP/BK (10 orang), Ag. Pengaruh Kompensasi, Pelatihan dan Lingkungan Kerja terhadap Kepuasan Kerja Guru di SMK YPKK 3 Sleman Tahun 2007

ABSTRACT
This research aimed to study and analyze the influence of compensation, training and working environment toward teacher’s working satisfaction in Vocational School YPKK 3 Sleman period 2007.
The type of this research is case study. The population as the sample in this research is all of teachers in Vocational School YPKK 3 Sleman by amount of 24 respondents. The technique of sampling which was used is saturate sampling technique. The data collection in this research used questioner and interview. For the technique of data analyzing it was used technique of Multiple Regression Analysis of Three Predictors. To examine the coefficient of multiple regressions it was used t-test.
Characteristic of respondent in this research is majority female (62,5%); most of them are 41 – 50 years old (54,2%); mostly have the educational level S1 (83,2%); and most of them had worked since 16 – 20 years old (45,8%). From the description of data to compensation variable, it could be concluded that the compensation which is given is inappropriate (54,17%); the training included category of satisfaction (50%); working environment which exist support them to work (38%), and the level of working satisfaction could be categorized as unsatisfied (50%).
Based on data analysis it could be known that F count value as much 8,137 by tariff of significance 0,001 whereas F value to 24 respondents by counter dk = 3 and denominator dk (24-3-1) = 20 to the rate of deviation 5% as much 3,10. By the reason F count > F table (8,137 > 3,10), by the level of significance is smaller than 5% (0,001 < 0,05), thus it could be concluded that the model of regression has been appropriate, thus it could be used to predict the working satisfaction.
Partial analysis revealed that only compensation which affect positively and significantly toward working satisfaction (K = 1,424, p = 0,005). R2 value of 0,550 which meant 55% of working satisfaction is affected by compensation, carrier development and working environment. Meanwhile 45% of working satisfaction is affected by other variables beyond this research. For example: degree or occupation, position, age, supervising quality, system of salary and social insurance, and the width of working insurance.

A Study on Students’ Perceptions on the Application of Contextual Translation Technique in Structure Classes

ABSTRACT
This study is derived from the concern that the students at the English Language Education Study Program have not been able to have satisfactory language ability, especially on the use of their English structure. There are two research questions to answer, i.e. 1) What do the materials of Structure IV using Contextual Translation Technique look like? And 2) What are the students’ perceptions on the application of the contextual translation technique?
Since the first research question of this study is developing some educational product, this study adopts some steps of the Research and Development cycles (Borg and Gall, 1983:775). To answer the second research question, a survey study using two sets of questionnaires was done.
The materials of Structure IV using Contextual Translation Technique contain Indonesian sentences with the patterns concerned to be translated into grammatical English. These exercises can provide the students with the understanding that Indonesian and English have some similarities and differences in sentence patterns. In Contextual Translation Techniques, the Indonesian sentences can be prepared by the teacher as well as by the students themselves. The process of translation can also be both ways, from Indonesian to English and from English to Indonesian.
The results of the questionnaires showed that the students have positive perception on the application of this technique in their structure classes. There were 158 respondents of the questionnaires. The majority, i.e. 97% of the students thought that they learned a lot about the application of English structure in context. Furthermore, 147 students (93%) agreed that the translation exercises improved their awareness of applying grammatically correct sentences. In general, most of the students (89%) thought that translation exercises could help them understand better all the discussed patterns. Finally, there were 148 students (94%) who thought that translation exercises could be useful for structure classes.
