ABSTRACT
This article presents the research report on the combination of reading log, and structure which is comprised in a portfolio for teaching writing I. The research was carried out in one semester, from January 31 to June 13, 2006, It shows the process oriented approach that is taken into consideration as a means of teaching academic “Writing I”. It has designed and implemented at Widya Mandala University in Surabaya. The result of this research after the treatment shows that the students’ achievement in their students’ portfolios obtain significant improvement in their getting ideas, unities and structures to write their assessments in “writing I”. I believe this approach can be applied in another academic writing in other universities.
